"It's one of the cleanest records I've heard this year as far as quiet vinyl dynamic range. The mastering that was done you know by Ryan K Smith I believe on this and of course it's a it it's an Acoustic Sounds (pressing) and it's a QRP pressing; boy I'll tell you, it's amazing." — Straight Talk with Jack Graham, 'Best-of' for 2023! YouTube video.
As critic Nat Hentoff makes clear, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster were larger than life. Formidable, even forbidding presences, they revealed a depth of feeling in their playing that spoke of their vast life experiences, as great writers or painters speak through their work.
Recorded in 1957.
