COLH 11 first UK edition of Fritz Kreisler recording of Beethoven Violin Concerto Great Recordings of The Century Series

Conductor George Barbirolli, Fritz Kreisler, London Philharmonic Orchestra

This recording the first issue in the heavy blue card cover, with textured vinyl finish. Issued UK in  1958. This record from one of the greatest Violinists of all time was never issued by HMV as Stereo, as were many of his finest recordings. So as far as I know, if you want Kreisler playing this Great Violin Concerto, the only way to get it on vinyl is through COLH 11, or as a reissue HLM series HMV,(or US Angel later pressing.) Hence its now regular command of premium prices, especially for the 1st edition.

NOTE this is a re mastering of the 1936 recording originally released on 78 RPM records DB series (?) ON full test play of this VG+ record, I was truly amazed at the 1957 re mastering to 33rpm and the clean sounding reproduction that had been achieved. HOWEVER this record although actually NM looking has some annoying little swooshes and clicks, mostly in the run in and run out on side 2. It is getting quieter with a couple of test plays as the LAST POWER Cleaner begins to remove what must be a few invisible grains of dust etc.  THIS MAY QUIETEN WITH A FEW MORE PLAYS , BUT I haven't obviously got the time to play it in full 3-4 times .

I think there are a couple of spots that won't clean up with playing, it is either a needle land damage (invisible to eye) or could  be indeed a fault in the pressing.

Wax No.s

side 1 2XEA 10091

side 2 2XEA 10092

LP Condition VERY GOOD + (see Photo's) This record has been Preliminarily washed using a Knosti Antistat bath, followed by Last Power Cleaner and finished with Last Record Preservative (said to protect from wear damage for up to 200 plays). 'Last 'is an archive quality Cleaner,

Having said how well I have tried to preserve it for you, the disc is in overall NM,  There are no visible scratches only a few light hairline paper scuffs, (Non Sounding), HOWEVER, there are parts particularly in quiet spots, where background ticks and pops are occuring. This is most prevalent in the opening sections on both sides, mostly before the soloist starts.

Complete test  play throughout rest of record show  pops and clicks, as usual associated with vinyl recordings, but they would be more described as odd pops and clicks without repetitive patterns associated with scratch style damage.

There is very little sign of spindle wear .

Cover condition (See Photo's) Very Good++. The dark blue very heavy card cover has no seam splits, but has a few nicks and rubs through to the card plain color (see photo's)

Very straight,  This is in remarkably good condition for being over 50 years old and has no bends or compacted corners, no seam splits however, SOME minor edge and corner  wear from shelving.  I would think it could be rated as VG++ .

Inner Dust Jacket original plastic lined paper sleeve,  has a small repaired tear near the centre cut out on one side , repaired with tape, that has yellowed with age.  Now the record is cleaned, I have included an archive quality dust jacket of more modern times to help preserve the current condition. Audiophile quality innersleeve is antistat non scratching sleeve by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL)

If this recording had a booklet like the other COLH auction offered in conjunction to this one, its missing, if it never had one, IT's Not!!!!

RULES FOR BIDDING

DOES ANYBODY READ THIS?? I THINK NOT BASED ON RECENT BIDDING ACTIVITY ON MY ITEMS!! PLEASE READ...

If you have hidden feedback, or

less than 98% positive, or

less than 50 recent visible positives, (that's NEW EBAY registrations with little activity yet, that have proven your good buying habits)  THEN -

I would appreciate email contact first to establish your credentials.  Credentials mean that I need to know you will be paying with VERIFIED PAYPAL account, and I of course will only be mailing to that verified address. DON'T EXPECT TO GET MY PERMISSION IN THE LAST 2 HOURS OF BIDDING, DO IT BEFOREHAND. (Buyers who have had trouble free transactions with me already qualify of course, regardless of the feedback status)

Winning bids unpaid after 7 days will be reported as non paying bidder and item opened to second chance offer.

HAPPY BIDDING, QUESTIONS WELCOME

This listing in Australian dollars because I don't live in US or UK, and if you don't, WHAT A WASTE OF DOUBLE CONVERSIONS THAT WOULD BE!!! Also as the exchange rate is more like R.S. not U.S against our vibrant economy in sunny Australia

The keen starting price offers a great opportunity to own this great recording at a reasonable starting price.
