Colosseum : Daughter Of Time 1Y1 / 2Y1 Vertigo

This second pressing on the iconic Vertigo label lays to the highest standard possible with no interference on either side.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is stunning and as always I have listened to every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' audio grading.  No guesswork here!  The vinyl is visually stunning and has been so well preserved over the last 50+ years and I cannot overstate just how clean and precise the audio is.  The playback is 'as new' no exaggeration and is another FINAL UPGRADE archive album of that I am sure.

The cover is in superb condition with hardly any wear and the original Swirl inner is super clean also.

This is known as a second pressing because it has small 'swirls' on the labels although it still has the first press matrix.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  All I can see under a bright light are a few very faint sleeve removal hairlines that obviously have no impact on the stunning audio.  There is no 'bag rash' or groove wear and the run out grooves are super clean also.  The iconic labels have no marking or writing and not very much spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Three Score And Ten Amen' plays with great clarity and depth and then Farlowe's opening vocal is equally as strong.  It continues to play with no interference and with real power also and then the quiet 'spoken' section has just one dust tick nothing more.  The remainder is faultless and this deserves to be graded as Mint such is the quality.

'Time Lament' then plays with wonderful clarity from start to finish.  This track of course has a number of relatively quiet passages and yet there is just no intrusion on the audio.  You would think that running over six minutes you would hear some background but no the clarity is perfect throughout.  Another perfect fade out also and another Mint track.

The piano intro on 'Take Me Back To Doomsday' is 'as new' and it then plays as clearly as the preceding tracks i.e. with no interference whatsoever.  You can hear each note so clearly and because this is such a pristine vinyl the bass sound is so clean and deep here.  Stunning sonic quality right through to the final note.  Mint

'The Daughter Of Time' ends the side with incredible audio and Farlowe's vocal here is very impressive indeed.  With an almost 'musical' feel to it the playback is very strong and there is no distortion on the top end despite it being a powerful track.  A sublime Mint finish to the side.

'Theme For An Imaginary Western' begins perfectly and proceeds to play with a sonic quality that is second to none.  It is again the clarity of the recording that really stands out and you would not believe just how clear and 'fresh' the audio is.  In essence it is 'as new' with no background of any kind.  Farlowe's vocal is so powerful here and this superb track is another that grades as Mint no need for a minus even.

Reminiscent of early Colosseum the instrumental 'Bring Out Your Dead' plays with STUNNING quality through every section with not one iota of interference.  And that includes the quiet section also that doesn't even have a solitary dust tick.  Mint

The sax intro on 'Downhill And Shadows' could not play with any greater precision, the clarity is 'as new' and the opening vocal is as impressive.  In fact every vocal and instrumental section play to the same standard and having listened to every second I can safely say it grades as Mint as there is no intrusion on the audio.  The audio is so rich and deep, I cannot stress enough just how strong the sonic quality is.

The 'live' version of 'The Time Machine' plays with stunning audio from the get go.  Hiseman's entire solo is faultless - jeez he must have been fit (!) and there are no ticks, clicks or pops.  Just pure Mint from start to finish.

In summary this Vertigo pressing plays as well as the other Colosseum LP that I am selling.  The sonic quality is equal to that of an album plucked straight from 1970 having never been played before!  There is no interference on either side and the clarity and depth of the audio is just 10/10.  This is another FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing without doubt.

The Gatefold & Swirl Inner

The cover is in lovely condition and has retained its original shape perfectly, it is extremely strong!  The edges are super clean and the bottom edges have only a minimal amount of light rubbing, a little more towards the right hand corners.  The wide spine is so close to perfect with only a couple of small rubs and the corners are in great condition also.  In fact only the bottom right corners have a little wear and the opening edge is practically 'as new'.  The front cover has a couple of specks and one thin 'line' running down from 'OF' which could perhaps be removed carefully, it's only a minor thing.  The back cover is immaculate as is the inside of the gatefold.  A superb example overall.

This original poly-lined Vertigo Swirl Inner is also in fantastic condition with no side splits or tears, barely any creasing and only a very minimal amount of age related fading along the top edges.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
