Colosseum : Daughter Of Time 1Y3 / 2Y1 Vertigo

This second pressing on the Vertigo label plays with stunning quality with no obvious intrusion.  In fact the only background is two light ticks on S2 - the clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive and as always I have listened to every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' audio grading, no guesswork here!  The vinyl is visually stunning and has been so well preserved over the last 50+ years and has only been lightly played as the original sonic quality is still very much there.  Honestly it plays so well and is quite possibly the finest version of this album that I have ever found.

I am pleased to say the gatefold has also been so well looked after as it remains in superb condition with hardly any wear and the original Swirl inner just happens to be one of the cleanest I have ever seen.

This second pressing has the small swirl logo on the labels and the 1Y3/2Y1 matrix.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only find a handful of very faint hairlines and one tiny 'speck' on S2 which causes the tiny minor ticks.  There is no groove wear and the iconic Vertigo labels have no marking or writing and only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Three Score And Ten Amen' plays perfectly and Farlowe's opening vocal is just as impressive.  From then on it plays with stunning clarity, definition and power.  The quiet 'spoken' section is flawless with not even a dust tick and the remainder is of the same high end standard including the long fade out.  This is a superb version and Mint is 100% deserved.

The intro on 'Time Lament' is as clean as anything I have heard before and this clarity continues into the opening vocal section.  Farlowe definitely has an almost theatrical musical style to his voice and that is very obvious here.  The long instrumental plays beautifully with no intrusion and it really plays like it has never been played before, stunning sonic quality.  The final vocal is flawless and this is easily another Mint track.

The entire opening section on 'Take Me Back To Doomsday' is 'as new' and one thing I noticed is just how much stronger the bass is, much more so than on the two previous albums.  New bassist obviously.  The vocal sections are faultless and the same applies to the instrumentals.  arly as the preceding tracks i.e. with no interference whatsoever.  You can hear each note so clearly and because this is such a pristine vinyl the bass sound is so clean and deep here.  Stunning sonic quality right through to the final note.  Mint

'The Daughter Of Time' plays with supreme audio and no interference.  This track also has a strong 'musical' feel to it and the playback is astounding!  There is no distortion on the top end and every section plays with sublime quality.  A Mint finish to the side.

'Theme For An Imaginary Western' plays with exceptional clarity and power from start to finish.  The depth of the audio is so impressive and it has lost none of its original sonic quality.  Farlowe's vocal is so powerful here and it definitely lends more depth and breadth to the Colosseum 'sound'.  No intrusion and Mint

Reminiscent of early Colosseum the instrumental 'Bring Out Your Dead' is so close to perfect with just two light ticks after 40 seconds or so.  The following quiet section is 'as new' and the remainder is just as strong.  Near Mint is fair.

The sax intro on 'Downhill And Shadows' has no background at all and the opening vocal is equal to that.  Once again you cannot help but be impressed by the clarity and depth on offer here.  Every vocal and instrumental section play with STUNNING quality and I can categorically grade this as Mint as there is not one dust tick even let alone anything more.  The mid instrumental in particular is sooo good!  The audio is so rich and deep, the definitive version you could say.

The 'live' version of 'The Time Machine' plays with genuine quality and again I cannot find one single negative.  Ok not everyone is a fan of extended drum solos but you have to admire what Hiseman does here.  The sonic quality is phenomenal and there is no interference whatsoever.  8 minutes of pure Mint percussive magic!

In summary this early Vertigo pressing could hardly play any better.  With only two very light ticks on S2 the clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is so impressive - I cannot emphasise enough just how well it plays.  There are some albums that have no interference but the sonic quality just isn't there although with this LP it most certainly is and that is why the Vertigo pressings are so collectable.  You don't need me to tell you that!  A breathtaking album!

The Gatefold & Swirl Inner

The cover is in lovely condition and has retained its original shape and structure perfectly.  The edges are very strong with very little rubbing and the wide spine is so clean with barely any wear on the corners.  The other corners are also in great shape and the opening edge is close to perfect with hardly any wear.  The front cover is stunning and the back cover is super clean also with just one tiny corner crease bottom right.  The inside of the gatefold is unmarked and remains in superb condition - if you want a top example of this cover then this is the one to own.

This original poly-lined Vertigo Swirl inner (dated 1070) is one of the best I have seen!  It has no side splits or tears, no obvious marking and barely any creasing.  Superb!

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
