Description

EMI COLUMBIA SAX 2483 LP TCHAIKOVSKY Romeo and Juliet

Francesca Da Rimini Conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini

First Issue  Turquoise and Silver  UK original 1963 STEREO

I have acquired a large classical collection of wonderful recordings from a very keen and dedicated collector.

They are all mostly from the late 50s to mid 60s - Something of a Golden Age in Classical recording

All records are inspected very carefully and Gradings are based on Record Collector magazine.

I try to only offer recordings in a minimum of excellent Condition unless it is something particularly rare

when I will do my best to describe any visual or audible flaws

TCHAIKOVSKY Romeo and Juliet

Francesca Da Rimini The Philharmonia Orchestra Conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini

on the EMI Columbia Turquoise and Silver Label SAX 2483 MATRIX YAX 915-3 and YAX 916 -4

CONDITION Side One Romeo And Juliet

is Visually Just below Excellent with faint surface marks

with two slightly more noticible marks near the start of the side one of 2 cm and the other 1 cm- both of these

I found inaudible on my deck (Goldring Lencko) but there was 1 light pop for 1 rev midway and 2 very light pops for 2 Revs

a little later into the piece.

Side Two Francesca De Rimini

is Again visually Just below Excellent with one faint surface mark across the whole band

Audibly There were 2 light pops for 1 rev near the start and midway But there was 1 louder pop for 1 rev

and A further Louder Pop shortly afterwards . So Being very Strict lets say VERY GOOD for both sides

Romeo and Juliet - an Overture Fantasia was first performed in 1870 and finally rewritten in 1886

It is of course one of the most famous and well loved of all classical works.

The Fantasia after Dante (Op 32) was written in 1876 a symphonic portrait of the story of

Paolo and Francesca de Rimini , taken from Dante's Inferno. A piece that perhaps had deep meaning

for Tchaikovsky as when he toured as a conductor this was the most performed of his own works.
