TRACKLIST: Rapist/ The Right To Choose/ Barry Prudom
A truly RARE Oi artifact, the 'Rapist' single was Combat 84's second release after 'Orders Of The Day' and is far rarer in my opinion. Though the artwork and inflammatory lyrics shocked at the time, the band have since remarked that most of the band's apparent political views were intended to gather publicity and response. What remains, after all the hubbub, is some cracking punk rock!
The title song is a pounding classic, with the cheap, ragged production adding to the balls out vitriol. The guitars sound HUGE and Chubby Chris' vocals are gravelly and full of power. 'The Right To Choose' is classic liberal baiting stuff but hammers away like a rougher UK Subs, while 'Barry Prudom' is a nasty piece of work about the legendary York murderer who terrorised the area in the early 80s. All of this is great OI stuff, and it's bloody RARE. I wish I didn't have to sell it, but I'm getting rid of lots of stuff at the moment so take care of this!
CONDITION OF VINYL: VERY GOOD. The problem with most Oi stuff is that you always find it in terrible condition - this is NOT in terrible condition. Visually, this single grades as VG... it's a little fogged on Side 2 and there are various paper scuffs on both sides. There's a surface mark at the start of side 2 WHICH DOES NOT SOUND. On PLAYBACK the grading is EXCELLENT. When I first got this I was literally STUNNED about how great it sounded. There are a few crackles at the run in grooves on both sides but once the music gets going it's SUPER CLEAR and LOOUUDD. I've got MINT singles which don't sound as good as this. The pressing is so good that there are absolutely NO pops in between the two tracks on side two, despite the slight fogging to the vinyl! I am absolutely CERTAIN that YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
CONDITION OF SLEEVE: VERY GOOD ++. The sleeve, as you can see from the photos, is in great condition. There are no rips, stains, or serious wear ANYWHERE on the paper sleeve. There is a little creasing at the top opening (perfectly normal for these thin paper sleeves) and a tiny dog ear on the bottom left hand corner. Otherwise this sleeve is LOVELY condition...All the graphics and artwork have been preserved perfectly. The Labels are unblemished aside from one or two spindlemarks. This is a GREAT copy of this super rare 7"!!!
I am an avid collector of many, many genres and keep my records in IMMACULATE condition. I grade according to the Record Collector Price Guide 'Ready Reckoner' and almost NEVER sell anything which is below EXCELLENT condition. Rest assured that my EXCELLENT is bloody EXCELLENT! Oh yeah and I NEVER GRADE ANYTHING MINT THAT IS NOT SEALED!! Near Mint is the highest grading I use for unsealed records.
All records will be sent within two days MAXIMUM of receipt of payment (usually within 4/5 hours of payment received). Your record will be expertly packed in a professional brown mailer, using one or two stiffeners and housed in a PVC 7" sleeve with the record in a paper inner placed outside the sleeve as is standard practice. I've always been lucky when buying records from ebay (save the odd occasion) and would like all buyers of my records to be 100% SATISFIED!
