Let me not hesitate at all in telling you precisely what this is:

Though some people still think the Command Classics label was a budget label of little reputation, this is entirely wrong.

Fact is, when Mercury was put up for sale, much of the production staff of the Living Presence team, including master chief George Piros and recordist Bob Fine, moved right over to Command, bringing along in the process some of the finest knowledge about how to record and press a record that has ever existed.

Now for the particulars:

Yes, the set before you is the finest product they ever released. Fact is, it is extremely rare, cut in short supply, fastidiously, and never offered for sale.



Within its leather confines, you will find the five best recordings they ever captured, each of them entitled "Original Masters," because Command pulled out all the stops in their production, Piros cutting each record on his favorite p17 master lathe, which he brought with him from Mercury.

The recordings themselves are: Steinberg and the Pittsburgh's Rachmaninoff SYMPHONY No. 2 and Brahms SYMPHONY No. 2. Pierre Derveaux at baton over the l'Orchestre de Concerts Colonne delivering Ravel's ALBORADA GRACIOSO, LA VALSE, and DAPHNIS ET CHLOE Suite 2. Also, Tchaikovsky CAPPRICCIO ITALIEN and Rimsky-Korsakov CAPRICCIO ESPAGNOL. The last disc in the case being a performance of PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION, with Vandernoot at the helm of l'Orchestre de Concerts Colonne.

Rather than talk about each of these recordings, let me encapsulate by only dealing with the last record mentioned, the PICTURES.



It is a stunning audiophile recording, one that has never ever failed me in stopping an audiophile audience right in its tracks. I mean, upon the first note heard, not only dead silence in the room…eventually, seconds later…gaping mouths from dropped jaws, cuss words of astonishment muttered, a laugh here and there of disbelief, everyone immediately aghast at the total and utter presence of an orchestra, plain as day, right before them in the room.

I tell you this, in this way, to tell you with certainty…this is not so much a set you listen to, it is more a musical event you come to witness.

A shockingly fine collection of vinyl here, gloriously realistic in its sound, full of power and slam that indeed just might re-arrange your listening room furniture.

"Impact" is the word…from recordings that truly reveal the weight of each instrument in the acoustic.

Leather case binding has minor cracking along the spine (nothing serious), while, within, the five records will play near mint, only the Rachmaninoff showing any wear at all, with a short mark upfront; otherwise, these are clean fine pressings of great worth.

A vinyl analog tour de force, to be treasured.
