Description

WILLYS AND JOHGOE  Lucia/Bolingo Henriette  Gallotone CO 105  E+  This was recorded in 1953 by a Gallo field unit that travelled up to Elizabethville (now Lubumbashi) in what was then the Belgian Congo.  These CO prefix discs were pressed in South Africa and then exported into the southwestern area of the Congo (Katanga Province) and surrounding areas where this style of vocals with acoustic guitar was popular.  The CO's were never sold in South Africa itself and perhaps were not even available in Leopoldville (today's Kinshasa) where the rumba style (and other local record companies) predominated.  This recording features a male vocal duet backed by two guitars.
