IVAN MORAVEC
CONNOISSEUR SOCIETY
CS 1065 & CS 1165
STEREO
Fabulous original 2-record set from Connoisseur Society. American pressing with first CS gold-and-white label. The LPs are MINT MINUS due to some superficial marks that do no affect play. Other than that, surfaces are smooth and retain their original lustre. There is no sign of spider tracery around either spindle hole. Both of the jackets are MINT. Lamination is fully intact on both fronts, while the backs are spotlessly clean.
Of these performances, Leslie Gerber of Amazon said: "If Moravec had made only these recordings, he would still be esteemed as one of our greatest pianists. He makes the piano sing through this set--coloring the music with exquisite tonal shadings, reflecting the changes of mood with total conviction, and providing moment after moment of revelatory beauty. Many critics consider this the greatest set of Chopin Nocturnes ever recorded, even finer than the superb stereo set by Rubinstein on RCA. These 1966 recordings, made in two different venues, are still outstanding examples of beautiful-sounding, realistic piano sound. Superb performances! It is a must-have set! It's that simple.
