One of the better of Bethlehem's west coast sessions from the 50's, and a split LP that brings together 2 different sessions – one by trumpeter Conte Candoli, and one by drummer Stan Levey. The Candoli session features a quartet that has Candoli as the main soloist on tracks like "Night Flight", "Tune For Tex", and "On the Alamo". The Levey session features a sextet with Candoli, Zoot Sims, and Jimmy Giuffre, and swings a bit harder than the quartet side. Tracks on this one are mostly orignals, and include "Drum Sticks", "West Coasting", "Fast Clip", and "Extraversion".

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        A visible water stain  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)  affects the area about 10 square inches in size in one corner; there is no structural damage to the cardboard base, however, the stain is visible and has caused some erosion in the firmness of the cover ,  visible yellowish discoloration, a few minor peel-off marks and a slight warp in the affected area.

-        The laminated cover has a slight loss (flaking) of lamination along the opening edge (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers; lamination is just beginning to peel-off along the opening edge; however, since the underlying layer of the cover is ALSO laminated, the peeled-off spots are only a minor visual distraction

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam

-         Minor ink stain noted on back panel (barely visible)

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No stamps

-        No stickers or labels

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
