COPS 'N ROBBERS
"ST. JAMES INFIRMARY" / "THERE'S GOTTA BE A REASON"

7" on the original DECCA RECORDS lable cat# F.12019 from 1964


At the earliest days of blues-beat from young white bands like Downliners Sect, Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, Yardbirds - and smaller bands like this one - influenced by the touring Original legends from the USA, was some of the BEST music of basic blues. This was to form the staple for some of the later bands emerging to create heavy British Rock and Progressive music.
Bobby Bland's superb delivery of this song is hard to top, and The Cops put their own great stamp on it for an excellent result. One of my own favourite singles from this genre.
The flip has a raw 'Garage' punch akin to what THEM were playing at the time - and it's another wonderful track!
A 2-sided winner, but.... not a big seller at the time when Merseybeat was swamping the charts.
