Marking their first album in over 30 years, majorly underappreciated and overlooked Swiss thrash metal trio Coroner return with the long gestating follow up to 1993's Grin in the form of sixth full-length Dissonance Theory. The band's first work with current drummer Diego Rappachietti, who joined in 2014 following their initial run of reunion shows with original member Marky Edelmann, who would ultimately depart due to an admitted disinterest in writing new material; this altered line up craft razor-sharp barrages of complex speed metal as pummelling and frenetic as anything from their original tenure over three decades prior. Shredding guitar solos, ludicrous drum-fills and rapid-fire double-kicks gallop beneath bassist Ron Broder's menacing vocals, authentically seasoned by both the passage of time and impassioned weariness for the world at large. Newly signed to Century Media, this is one of those rare instances of a legacy metal act returning from a totally different era with sound, vision and attitude to stand toe to toe with any would be modern day contemporaries.
