VARIOUS ARTISTS -- Condor Records DJ Sampler -- ex. rare, original promo-only sampler album, likely 1968 - 1969, for the now-infamous Condor Records exploitation label out of British Columbia, Canada.  For psych/garage fans, the best-known artists represented here are experimental psych legends Crazy People with "Trans Luv Airlines" off their deranged "Bedlam" album, and heavy duty blues/psych outfit The Blues Train with the intense "Busted In Chicago."  Like many 1960's indie/exploitation labels, the history of Condor is fascinating and tangled, but apparently the resident genius behind it was producer/musician "Johnny Kitchen" (aka Jack Millman) who recorded a number of gonzo garage, psych, R&B/soul and exotica tracks using mostly studio musicians including the now underground-classic Crazy People and The Blues Train albums, and licensed them to a dodgy businessman in British Columbia (apparently in the lumber business!) who wanted to inflate the value of his company by adding a record label.  This deejay-only sampler was never available commercially and is by far one of the rarest Condor-related releases.  It features a terrific cross-section of Kitchen's best artists on the label, from psych weirdness to some extremely tasty R&B/soul-funk -- in fact, the majority of tracks on the record are R&B/soul and they're all excellent including The Jimmy Cole Unlimited's raw, echoey, garage-sounding "You Don't Love Me," The Soul Mates' wailing R&B/soul track "Little Rock," two fantastic tracks from the anonymous Tempo International Productions albums, "The House That Jack Built" (driving, Aretha Franklin-type R&B/soul) and "I'm A Midnight Mover" (rocking, uptempo Wilson Pickett rip-off.)  Other tracks of interest are The Surf Riders' twanging surf instrumental "Loop" in the style of The Surfaris/Marketts/Ventures, The Trio Of Time's groovy folk number "Back Trackin'", The Gospel Soul Singers' "The God Within My Soul" and others.  Issued without a cover.  Record:  VG+/VG++, two light surface scuffs on Side One, light surface wear, overall very clean, on white Condor DJ-only label.  To hear a short sound clip, click on the link below.
