LP grades Near Mint ~ ATCO SD 7100 ~ WHITE LABEL PROMO ~ First Issue 1969 ~ With Rare Poster

This promo copy has a DIFFERENT POSTER than the one normally distributed with the stock copies of this album. The poster included in this copy is a dark navy color with silver stars scattered in the air (as opposed to plain black, no stars) and features the GOODBYE back cover photo of CREAM not the more familiar front cover photo used on the normal poster. Also the printing at the bottom of this poster says : "Goodbye from the Cream" (see scan) instead of the normally seen "Farewell from the Cream". The poster itself is in Excellent shape with a few fingerprints, a slight crease near the top and a barely visible quarter-inch tear at the bottom edge near the middle fold. This extremely cool 22" by 22" poster is a true late-Sixties' artifact. It has never been hung up on a wall and is still neatly folded.

The record itself is in amazing NEAR MINT shape with very little visible wear.

The original thick-stock gatefold cover grades Excellent with very slight ring wear on front & back, slight edge & corner wear ~ Top seam of the back cover shows slight wear with a small chip ~ Spine shows some wear near the top but is intact & legible ~ All other seams are intact

The front cover has two stickers attached. One is a generic day-glo orange promo sticker seen on many Atlantic-Atco promo lps but the other is a very rare, seldom seen red & white CREAM info sticker concerning the poster. These stickers were probably attached to the shrink wrap of the very first stock copies of this title (back in 1969) but then were lost forever once the album was opened. Because this promo copy was never "for sale" it was never shrink-wrapped, thus the sticker was attached directly to the cover. The two stickers show slight wear but are still intact (see scans.)

The lovely white ATCO promo labels are very sharp with no writing & very few spindle marks.

"Like Wheels of Fire before it, Goodbye showcases both sides of Cream: that of a late-'60s pop band and that of an unchained blues-rock powerhouse. The live tracks on Side One are highly improvised affairs, with even "I'm So Glad" receiving an extended guitar solo from Clapton. How he is able to play such laid-back and tasty blues over the relentlessly aggressive Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker is a mystery. In fact, the real superstar of these recordings is Bruce, whose upfront, distorted bass playing kicks Baker along as much as it challenges Clapton. At times it sounds more like a battle than anything else, battles that Bruce, with his tenacity and pure drive, almost always wins. The ominous neo-blues of "Politician" and the more traditional "Sitting on Top of the World" close out this extraordinary selection of live material. Side two opens with one of Cream's finest pop songs: "Badge." Co-written by George Harrison [though not credited], this track features more great bass from Bruce as well as some phenomenal singing [from Clapton]. The remaining tracks on Side Two, "Doing That Scrapyard Thing" and "What a Bringdown," aren't quite up to the standards of the other material, but what would a Cream album be without some throwaways? Luckily the other tracks are so strong as to raise it to the status of a must-have. A fitting way to go out, Goodbye captures all that is good about Cream, and is one of the band's proudest moments." ~ AMG

The Bear Says : Here is an extremely rare white label promo copy of GOODBYE, the fourth & final actual album by the archetypal British power trio CREAM. This title was first released in The States on ATCO in January, 1969. The near-perfect looking labels on this copy would suggest that the record was seldom played. Upon very close inspection one might see one or two very faint surface marks but overall the record is in fantastic shape and thus receives a grade of Near Mint. The original gatefold cover shows minor wear but is still in Excellent shape with slight wear rings and a small bit of edge & corner wear. The spine shows some edge wear but is intact and legible. There is a tiny chip off the top seam of the back cover. The colorful inside cover is Near Mint. The black and white Atco record labels are extremely sharp (see scans.) This white label promo copy with the ultr-rare alternate poster is a bonafide collector's item. The cover has a few minor flaws due to age but it remains in Excellent condition. The disc looks fabulous and has lovely white promo labels. This vinyl gem would make a perfect gift for the true Cream fanatic. Say Hello to a first issue promo copy of GOODBYE !!
