Rarity: Moderate, but harder to find originals in such super condition with a record appearing hardly played and offering supreme sound. The cover is highly prone to wear, but this has little as-seen.

Brief Info: The final Cream album and aptly titled – the inside gatefold features somewhat sombre, but colourful tombstones. It was a successful album and peaked at No. 1 in the UK. An album of two distinct sides: one being live and two, studio. Both are superb and well recorded, the most famous UK blues power-trio went out with a bang not a whimper and this is a stunning record.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: an unlaminated gatefold sleeve with a matt smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Ernest J. Day Co Ltd. Includes the inner sleeve.

Cover Front: A tough one to find with barely any rubbing, creasing or sticker tears. This front has avoided all bar the merest trace of a sticker outline near the top left corner, the surface totally untorn or pulled. The card has a little gentle waving and little else. It retains deep colour and freshness, and as seen, highly attractive.

Cover Back: I would happily describe the back as near mint with barely anything of note to fault at all. The lack of rubbing and especially ring wear is most welcome news on such a dark surface.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Practically as-made and looking magnificent.

Top & Bottom Edges: All four are straight, the top pair with mainly light patchy rubbing. The front lower one has more moderate rubbing around the central area, the back has little. Storage edges on dark covers especially seldom escape without any.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with barely any traces of any wear and guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced. Record enters on this back edge.

Spine and Text: Again in super condition, solid, straight with minimal traces of any compression, a hint of tilt to right being critical. Also folded square, so all edges meet up perfectly together and parallel. All text is perfect and unworn and there is hardly any surface wear at all. Even the folds have avoided scuffs and rubbing.

Corners: Light rubs on the right corner tips. Excellent or better shape retained with no knocks.

Cover Summary: A difficult vintage cover that has withstood the test-of-time very well. Most of these that surface are scruffy and worn, with most confined to the bottom edge (and that hardly major), this is a near exceptional example to please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): the polylined inner sleeve has only lightly aged with the usual discolouration of the paper, in this case only mild. Both window circles are crisp and undamaged, the lining still clear. Hardly any creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a superb visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and quite heavily pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface traces few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. A faint scuff trace each side that do nothing. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, little even registers. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
