Presenting
Hideously Rare Original South African LP released on Gallotone Records in 1966. Featured in the Hans Pokora series of books. There is virtually noting about this albumto be found online and i cant find a single copy that been offered for sale or been sold.

In May 1964, The Fentons who were the top group in Northern Rhodesia at the time broke up. At the same time, Val Parker, who had been appearing in various clubs in Northern Rhodesia, had her passport stolen, so was stranded in the soon to be Zambia. At one of the clubs Val performed at, The Fentons were the resident band. When The Fentons broke up, their bass guitarist (voted the best in Zambia, 1964) and Val got together and decided to form a new group. Mario De Angelis heard of Steve Fenwick, newly arrived from the UK, through friends, so recruited him as Rhythm Guitarist. A Lead Guitarist and Drummer were found and the band was duly formed under the name The Crescendos. They had various Lead Guitarists, finally settling on Peter Lynch, who had been the Saxophonist for The Fentons.
In no time at all, The Crescendos became Zambia’s top Beat Band, appearing on T.V and radio. They were offered a contract in South Africa, and during negotiations, recruited Rhodesian drummer, Ray Browne, to join the group, replacing their drummer they had in Zambia.
The line- up at the time consisted of:
• Peter Lynch – Lead Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals, Saxophone
o Originally, from the U.K. Played for The Young One’s, later The Fentons who won the Rock Band competition in Northern Rhodesian in 1964. Was fully professional for six months when The Fentons played at the Continental Night Club, Ndola, and later at the Savoy Hotel.
• Steve Fenwick – Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Arranger, Composer
o Had been in Africa for one year, originally from London where he was an arranger and guitarist for Monk & Co. – a demo-recording group in West Hampstead. Also a songwriter, he has penned numbers for Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, Sound 7 and many other recording groups.
• Mario De Angelis – Bass Guitar, Vocalist, Band Leader
o Originally from Rome. Played for The Young Ones then for The Fentons. Winners of the 1964 Rock Band Competition in Zambia. Won the title of “Best Bass Guitarist” in Zambia. Played fully professional for six months at the Continental Hotel, Ndola, and the Savoy Hotel.
• Ray Browne – Drummer
o Drummer for The Bellairs in Salisbury, from November 1964. ; Left them in June 1965 and gig work for a while. Joined The Crescendos in March when they commenced their contract in South Africa.
• Val Parker – Organist, Vocalist, Manager, Cabaret Artist (now as “The Golden Voice”
o Well-known vocalist/cabaret artiste – singing in thirteen languages. Appeared with numerous leading bands, e.g., Dan Hill, George Hayden, Art Heatlie, Nico Carstens, Duffy Ravenscroft, Basil Metaxis, Neville Pietersen etc. appeared at night clubs such as:
? JOHANNESBURG: Diamond Horse Shoe, Ciros, Colony, His Majesty’s Cellar, Casino, Dorchester, Carlton Hotel.
? CAPE TOWN & DURBAN: Los Angeles “Hollywood Boulevard”, Waldorf, Latin Quarter, Cosmo.
? PRETORIA: Continental Hotel, Culemburg Hotel, Ambassador Hotel.
? MOCAMBIQUE – LOURENCO MARQUES: Polana, Estraglia, Cave Clubs
? ZAMBIA: St Tropez, Pigalle Kitwe, Continental Club, Ndola, Club 67 Lusaka, La Cumparista, Mufilira.
• In addition, did Radio, T.V and variety work.
