hopelessly underrated and poorly described by most psychedelic 'scribes' - this one is actually a classic (great Bill Fay song) and one of my big-production faves of the era - as you might expect from the name of the band, this is unashamedly ornate pop psych - a huge, Mellotron-soaked melancholy piece displaying those marvellous gloomy moods only the English can achieve and more than a little suggestion of the big and portentous sound King Crimson would soon unleash, taking things a sinister step further than the urbanely manicured Moody Blues - the b-side is a ballsy romp and nowhere near as bad as the title might suggest - in fact it's a gas - fantastic stuff! - another essential UK period piece!
