CROSBY, STILLS & NASHCrosby, Stills & Nash
UK ATLANTIC (588 189 STEREO) FIRST PRESSING (June 1969) OF CROSBY, STILLS & NASH'S EPONYMOUS DEBUT LP
VERY NICE COPY - SEEN LITTLE PLAY
PRESSED WITH THE UK ATLANTIC RED/PLUM LABELS
MATRIX: 588189 A//2 11 34 / 588189 B//2 11 12
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL HEAVILY TEXTURED (inside and outside) SOFT BACKED GATEFOLD SLEEVE "Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford W11” WITH FACTORY SEALED LEFT SIDE EDGE
COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL GATEFOLD LYRIC INSERT (with the first issue characteristic of also being printed on textured paper)
AND THE ORIGINAL POLY-LINED POLYDOR INNER SLEEVE
The Crosby, Stills & Nash triumvirate shot to immediate superstardom with the release of its self-titled debut LP, a sparkling set immortalising the group's amazingly close, high harmonies.
While elements of the record may not have dated too well -- Nash's Eastern-influenced musings on the hit "Marrakesh Express" and the antiwar sentiments of "Wooden Ships" especially, the best material here remains rock-solid.
Stills' gorgeous opener, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," in particular, is an epic love song remarkable in its musical and emotional intricacy, Nash's "Pre-Road Downs" is buoyant folk-pop underpinned by light psychedelic textures, and Crosby's "Long Time Gone" remains a potent indictment of the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
A definitive document of its era.
Track Listing:
Side 1: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes / Marakesh Express / Guinnevere / You Don't Have To Cry / Pre-Road Downs
Side 2: Wooden Ships / Lady Of The Island / Helplessly Hoping / Long Time Gone / 49 Bye Byes
LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, bright and unmarked labels which have lost none of their strong vibrant colour and display only light spindle traces
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
The vinyl surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and appear unmarked under normal light with just wispy hairlines visible under bright light
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT (Side One) / EXCELLENT (Side Two)
Sensational sound performance - crystal clear, deep, rich and finely detailed with no groove-wear or distortion.
My play-check at loud volume revealed no major audio issues of note - no scratches, no loud clicks or pops and only the lightest touch of surface on some of the track divisions on Side One.
Side Two (very critically graded) plays with some intermittent ticks - nothing major or continuous and nothing I found at all intrusive on listening to this wonderful LP
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
This particular sleeve is incredibly prone to wear due to its almost blotting paper like finish but this is a very fine example.
The edges and spine show very little wear to speak of (all spine text is clear), the outer surfaces are clean, unmarked and unrubbed and the inner surfaces are like-new
LYRIC INSERT: EXCELLENT
The original gatefold insert, printed on one side of textured paper is also clean and unmarked with only light handling
and the original poly-lined inner is clean and unmarked with no splits - just some age-related discolouration
ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
