Album Notes ........... First published March 11, 1970 ......
So now is "Deja Vu" finally, after you finally found the original bands at Classic Records and the remastering by Bernie Grundman nothing stood in the way. But not only from the tonal side expected the listener first-class, but also the design of the cover will make the collector happy: The folding cover in hard cardboard has a leather-inspired ribbed surface, but unfortunately has also driven up the price! "Deja Vu" was one of the most anticipated second LP, because after the millionaire success of the 1969 debut album, the fans were in high anticipation and indeed this work was a huge success for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young! They were again brilliant with perfect vocal harmonies and gorgeous melodies, of which "Woodstock" and "Teach Your Children" also became hits ............
Artist: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young .....
Title: Deja Vu .....
Label: Atlantic / CLASSIC RECORDS
*************************************************************************************************
After the great success of their debut album Crosby, Stills & Nash (1969), David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash were looking for musicians to tour with, as the multi-instrumentalist Stills had recorded almost all the instruments in the studio alone. Drummer Dallas Taylor, who had already been on the debut, was now supported by Motown session musician Greg Reeves on bass. Finally, Neil Young also joined Stills' bandmate from Buffalo Springfield days. The band name has been extended to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, but also Reeves and Taylor are mentioned on the cover and can be seen on the cover of the album.
The new recordings sounded much more rock-oriented than its predecessor, which was mainly due to the now two lead guitarist Stills and Young. However, this did not change the stylistic diversity of the band, whose (now four) songwriters set individual accents: Crosby contributed with the title song Déjà Vu and the piece Almost Cut My Hair two very influenced by the hippie movement songs that soon to Developed classics. Stills wrote with Carry On / Questions and 4 + 20 two very different songs, of which only the former is actually a "real" CSNY tune, whose four-part vocals brought one of the essential qualities of the band to bear. On 4 + 20, however, Stills accompanied herself to the acoustic guitar. Graham Nash was responsible for two of the album's three successful singles, Teach Your Children and Our House: Teach Your Children reached # 16, Our House # 30. The most successful single was Woodstock, written by Joni Mitchell and arranged by Stephen Stills as Rock , which came to 11th place. Neil Young contributed his classic piece Helpless and the three-part song Country Girl. The conclusion of the album is the song written by Young and Stills Everybody I Love You, the only song of the album can not be counted as the canon of the "CSNY-classics".
However, the musical density of the album belies the fact that the individual musicians did not get along very well and recorded the recordings individually, which is why not all four musicians can be heard on all tracks. [2] Stephen Stills estimated it would have taken about 800 hours of work to get the footage. [3]
The effect of the album was enormous: not only that Déjà Vu reached the top of the charts and led to successful solo albums of all four members, the magazine Der Spiegel called it even the "soundtrack of the so-called Woodstock generation." [4] The Allmusic Guide also rates the album as a milestone in popular music. [5]
Shortly after the release of Déjà Vu, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young recorded the single Ohio in May 1970: The Neil Young had written the song in response to the Kent State massacre. in which four students were shot during a peaceful protest. The b-side Find the Cost of Freedom, written by Stephen Stills, also became a popular protest song; the single reached number 14 in the charts.
The success of Déjà Vu was followed by a very successful tour, which is documented on the live album 4 Way Street. (Wikipedia)....

(WIKIPEDIA)..
