Description
THE CRYSTALITES - Splash Down / Finders Keepers (Nu Beat NB 036) 7" - 1969
Rare and highly collectable 7" on the Nu Beat label featuring The Crystalites' Derrick Harriot-produced instrumental gem Splash Down backed by Finders Keepers. Well used and, to be fair, a little abused, the vinyl retains a decent sheen with numerous light and lightish fine scratches and scuffs. On the A-side there are approximately six more noticeable ones - nothing too serious - while on the B-side there are a couple of small patches of full-stop sized abrasions and a couple of more noticeable scratches - again none of these too serious - plus a moderate scuff in the shape of a 'b'. The top section of this measures approximately 2cm x 3mm, while the lower section is 7mm x 5mm. Finally there is a very small melt mark on the outer edge, but this is clear of the last three run-in grooves. More details follow in the descriptions - these should give you a good idea about the actual sound quality of each side. Despite these imperfections both sides play through without sticking or jumping and the music comes through loud and clear.

A-side: Plays with a moderate amount of poppy crackle for the first 20 seconds or so, thereafter there is only a small amount of surface noise with plenty of very small and small pops and clicks and a few smallish-to-moderate ones. Grade - VG- improving to VG/VG+
B-side: Plays with a moderate amount of poppy crackle for the first 30 seconds or so, thereafter there is only a small amount of surface noise with some very small and small pops and clicks. In addition, the b-shaped scuff causes a sharp pop on each revolution which ranges from small to smallish to moderate. Grade - ranges between VG- and VG
Labels: There are soundman markings on the A-side label (see scan), while the B-side label has a little general wear and a scuff which measures 1cm x 5mm.
