The Cure is the name of a famous British band, whose early post-punk from the late seventies, more precisely to 1976, in full explosion new wave (in the company of groups like Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees). The band, whose formation has varied more or less regularly over the years, including a minimum of two to a maximum of six members, reached the pinnacle of success in the mid to late eighties (especially individuals Close to Me and Lullaby, strokes, respectively, from the two album The Head on the Door in 1985 and Disintegration of 1989). Robert Smith, singer, guitarist, songwriter and co-author of almost all the music and the group's founder, is the only member to have been part from the beginning to now.
In July 2008, the Cure had sold about 28 million records. The album is the best-selling greatest hits compilation Standing on a Beach - The Singles 1978-1985 of 1986, only in America that has sold over two million copies. In the United Kingdom, the United States' America and Italy, the Cure had 12 Top Ten albums (highest positions: UK: Wish # 1, USA: Wish, # 2, Italy: The Cure, # 2) and 11 individuals (highest positions: UK: Lullaby, # 5, USA: Lovesong, # 2, Italy: High, # 2).
The treatments are often categorized as belonging to the genera of gothic rock and darkwave, because of their image sad and decadent (especially in the early eighties, when they got an initial popularity, thanks to long playing Pornography, who became a milestone like) and because of the strong emotional component of their songs and their videos!
