CURRENT 93 with the Black and Red Menstrual Show
" Christ and the Pale Queens Mighty In Sorrow "
2x LP (one side ETCHED, with original art etched into it)
plus TWO INSERTS and a beautiful textured cover.
(I've enclosed a close-up of one of the inserts which states that this is limited to 93 copies, and a close-up of the vinyl itself, although it's very difficult to see the art on it, and my reflection is all over that baby)
Rare 1988 vinyl double LP! TWO ALBUMS! NM. Includes two inserts with amazing list of United Dairies merch (oh, to go back in time and order some of the test pressings they have listed on there!), info about the double album, etc.
The record cover is, as usual, quite a special original piece of art. Textured. Rough. I would call it NM- if not for one slightly dented corner. Besides that, this whole thing is at least NM-. The vinyl looks like neither record has been played. I don't think that either one has been played, in my opinion.
This is almost literally impossible to find on vinyl. According to the sleeve and insert, IT WAS LIMITED TO 93 COPIES!!!!!
That's 93 copies pressed! Can you imagine that? I mean, huh? Ninety three? Yes, coincidentally enough that's the name of the band! This is just amazing. A double LP collecting rare tracks. Side IV is "written and performed by Steven Stapleton".
One of the sides of the vinyl has no music on it. It is completely etched!!!! I tried to take photos, but they were all too relective. You'll have to see it for yourself. You get part of it, and you see me in the reflection, but that's the best I can do.
We will ship ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. $6 US $7 Canada $10 overseas
I'm not sure if I'm putting this across properly, but THIS IS INCREDIBLY RARE. To find a copy of this DOUBLE LP in any shape is amazing. To find one that could be passed off as brand new is a once in a lifetime experience.
Christ And The Pale Queens Mighty In Sorrow is an album by the English group Current 93. Like Imperium it was made during a musical style shift between the earlier industrial sound of Current 93 and the current more neofolk inspired. It was originally released as an LP in 1988 on the Maldoror label, but was reissued as CD in 1989 and 1994.
Current 93 are an eclectic British experimental music group, working since the early 1980s in folk-based musical forms. The band was founded in 1982 by David Tibet (née David Michael Bunting, renamed 'Tibet' by Genesis P-Orridge sometime prior to forming the group).
Tibet has been the only constant in the group, though Steven Stapleton (of Nurse With Wound) has appeared on nearly every Current 93 release. Michael Cashmore has also been a constant contributor since Thunder Perfect Mind. Douglas P. of Death In June has played on well over a dozen Current 93 releases, and Steve Ignorant of Crass (using the name Stephen Intelligent), Boyd Rice, runologist Freya Aswynn, Nick Cave, Björk, Andrew W.K., Will Oldham, Ben Chasny, Rose McDowall, Tiny Tim, Tony Wakeford of Sol Invictus, Marc Almond, John Balance of Coil and Ian Read of Fire + Ice have also lent their talents over the years. Tibet is fond of the works of American writer Thomas Ligotti, and invited him to collaborate with Current 93.
Current 93 have released some twenty albums, and many singles, as well as having been a guest on many of the above listed artists' records, and others' such as Nature and Organisation and The Hafler Trio.
Much of Current 93's early work was similar to late 1970s and early 1980s industrial music: abrasive tape loops, droning synthesizer noises and Tibet's distorted, excoriating vocals. This early work became influential with the goth scene. Later works found Tibet mostly casting off such trappings in favor of a more organic sound, labeled by some as "apocalyptic folk" music, occasionally featuring his sinister nursery rhyme-influenced singing and primarily acoustic folk-styled music.
Tibet's lyrics have been fairly consistent, regardless of delivery: The earlier recordings reflect his preoccupation with death, Christ, mysticism, Aleister Crowley (Tibet borrowed the term "93 Current" from Crowley - the 93 Current being the current of Thelema or Agape), Tibetan Buddhism, Gnosticism, runes, The Wicker Man, and a variety of occult notions. The later to present-day period of Current 93's recordings increasingly reflect Tibet's interest in Christian mysticism. Tibet has stated that he now identifies as a Christian.
Literary influences include Lautreamont's Les Chants de Maldoror, The Bible, The Poetic Eddas, Francis Parker Yockey's Imperium, Hildegard von Bingen, John Dee, Heptarchia Mystica, The Thunder, Perfect Mind, William Blake, Louis Wain, writer Thomas Ligotti, occult British author Arthur Machen (originator of the title "The Inmost Light"), M.R. James's various ghost stories, The Cloud of Unknowing, Count Eric Stenbock, and Russell Hoban's Riddley Walker.
Musical influences include religious chants, traditional folk music, The Tam Lin ballad, The Incredible String Band, Sand, Comus, Blue Öyster Cult, Love, Shirley Collins, and the Parsi composer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji
Some of the lyrics to Christ and the Pale Queens:
I am without origin and from whom every beginning comes forthI am the ancient of days to declare that i am a day by myself
Alone I am the day that does not shine by the sun rather by me
That the sun is ignited I am the reason that it is
Not made perceptible by anyone else
Rather I am the one
I own every being that lives, draws breath, and soothes to gaze at my
countenance
I have created mirrors in which I consider myself without end
Through wonders of my originality i have prepared for myself these mirrors
So they may revend and maintain song of praise
For I have a voice like a thunderbolt by which i keep in motion the entire
universe
In the living sounds of all creation and this I have done who am the ancient of
days
By my word which was and is without beginning i calls all the mighty lights to
emerge
And in this light countless sparks which are angels
But when the angels came to awareness withint their light
They forgot me and wanted to be as i am
Therefore the vengeance of my punitive zeal rejected in thunderclaps those
beings
Which had presumed to contradict me
For there is only one God and no other but me
See the photo(s). Sorry about my hand in the shots, (if it is), but I try to NEVER LAY THE VINYL DOWN ON ANYTHING, unlike lots of sellers, who FREAKIN' lay records down on tables and things to photograph them! We give them all the very clean hand or WHITE GLOVE TREATMENT, as you see in the photos, and take the pics with someone holding the vinyl in the air, never touching it, pulling it carefully from its sleeve. Whatever we sell you is going to be in the best shape possible. We're all collectors and know that other collectors appreciate the extra mile. I mean, there may be a smoker in the building, but he doesn't blow it into the records, and we handle them as if they might explode! (Although they won't, postal person, we promise)
If you get your record and think it doesn't stand up to what we said in our auction, contact Johnny or Noel here, point your finger to this part of the auction, send us back your win, and we'll send you back your money. It's that easy, sleazy. Bid knowing you're safe in our nasty little hands.
And as I said before, we like to grade conservatively, so you end up being happy with what you get. It's like a surprise! And we start auctions low so you could end up winning a rare collectible for next to nothing. Good luck!
This is 2 vinyl records, NOT A CD. You play it on a turntable. That's an arcane device that spins plastic around and around at a constant speed and a diamond on the end of a stick scrapes at it and makes noise that you hopefully enjoy.
Have a good time bidding. Maybe you can get it for a steal. Good luck. Hopefully you'll get it for a good price. If you have any questions, fire 'em at us!
If you buy up to two items, the postage stays the same. Over that, we tack on a dollar for each item. Unless we're feeling rich on that particular day.
We will ship this ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.
Uh, okay. I was going to try to revise the above, and spell the word that I'd somehow left a letter out of, but it won't let me correct it. I guess because there's already a bid on it? Anyway, I'm sure you've figured out for yourself that it's supposed to say that the vinyl was too "reflective", but I wrote "relective" instead.
Unless I'm incorrect, the word relective doesn't make any sense. If it means something to you, disregard this addition to the auction.
If I weren't such a prig about English, I wouldn't even have corrected this, but I read back over the auction, saw that odd word and deflated.
So really, this is all being written just to say that I know I made a spelling mistake in the listing. This probably makes me out to be more of a jerk than if I just left it alone. Man. I'm insane.
Anyway, this is a rare album, and I'm glad to see that people care, and that it's going to go to a good home. I always feel weird starting things at high bid prices, but this album (WHEN you can find it) usually sells for much much more than the opening bid. Good luck! Hopefully everything is spelled correctly here.
