Description
Goldmine Record Grading Standards under a good strong light for accurate visual grading; Play-grading will be noted. Personal notes added about condition, historical references and context, dates, and pressing detail [ THIS RECORD PLAY-GRADED--and a beauty!! read on. . . ]
NO RESERVE. . . NO BIG Opening Price..... just be sure you're the one who walks away with this seldom offered early Blue Note date--cheers!
A sought after of a less common original FIRST U.S. Pressing of Blue Note 1583; Deep Groove [ Mono] pressing both sides; ear engraved; RVG engraved (see enlarge photos for your closer evaluation); substantial vinyl platter and an important BN date here.
Art Farmer (tp) Curtis Fuller (tb) Sonny Clark (p) George Tucker (b) Louis Hayes (d)
Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, December 1, 1957
Tracks ?: little messenger (see playback note below for track one) / quantrale / jeanie SIDE 2 carvon / two quarters of a mile / it's too late now
[ Thorens' rig, v15Shure Cart. Klipsch tower speakers] Play-graded notes: Robust! bam!-even at the lowest of volume level; first opening track; bold, 'warm' typical mid-'50s BlueNote 'sound; clear plays with little or no 'hiss' even in quiet passages; plays very quiet with ear next to deck; typical RVG engineering here!! Plays full-volume if needed, otherwise turn vol. knob to a low as possible for the same robust play back and separation; clarity is a peach! Outstanding; Based on listening to both sides, I can comfortably offer a more VG++ to NM- playback grade despite the 'visual grade' of VG+ or better. Plays through outstandingly Side One & Two, except for one flaw: a skip in Side One, Track One mid-way through. I did not increase my very light tracking to see if it rides through, but it should be noted; I played it twice with same result-- Again, overall, based on my listening enjoyment and very close audio observations, this is an exceptional first pressing with all the required first pressing points noted of this sought after original Curtis Fuller Quintet. The only flaw quite liveable in imho.
COVER: VG+ (Super clean!; lies flat; typical minor 4- corner wear; glossy laminated front graphic; spine straight and appears 'unrubbed'; great liner notes; white and clean reverse; NO defacing marks, names, or phone- numbers (LOL!); even the original glassline record insert remains inside! NO seam splits--obviously, a well-cared for LP.
I will answer all questions as accurately as I can... [ PS please see my other original Blue Note first pressing this auction, too..]
My Shipping Practices: Records ship outside of their cover encased in a new 3-mil poly bag; ship in a NEW record mailer at 200lb test; I USE TWO NEW cardboard stiffeners to sandwich the LP for a precautionary measure; package heavier because of it, but peace-of-mind, too; all record mailer seams taped with non-rip Nylon tape; laser printed shipping and return address labels used with clear-tape-over each label for added adhesiveness; large RED 'FRAGILE' stamped front and back of mailer--overall, a professional packaging job as I would want to receive for the records I purchase....
