Description
This is an acetate of the legendary R&B sweet Soul and Funky classic by the California Playboys. The lp was put out on Loadstone Records and is considered pretty rare today. In fact one of the S.F. Bay Area's Rarest & most sought after Soul Releases. But that refers to the album and this is the Acetate that went on to be that album! The purpose of test pressings like this one was for the band to listen to what their effort was going to sound like when the public hears it. And also if the mix is right to all the guys in the band etc...This would be about the last chance to fix/change anything about it before it went to the pressing plant. Mostly pressed in very, very small quantity numbering in about exactly how many guys were in the band and that would be about it. This was most likely owned by one of the California Playboys for reasons I stated previously. It plays through a little surface noisy and looks worse than it actually sounds as I think it sounds pretty great! On a 1-10 scale I would give it a 5 & a 1/2. Content wise it is a brilliant Soul & Funk & Disco Boogie masterpiece! Like I said a little on the noisy side but plays without skipping and is one of those records that once you hear it you understand why Soul fans and Record loving folks have shelled out really big dough for it. The title cut has an unforgettable intro that I can't get out of my head! Every track is really cool and you can be the one to own this test pressing of an underground Soul Classic!
