Camel 1st LP UK Camel MCA MUPS 473 Rare EX+

MCA MUPS 473 pressing of their 1973 debut album, simply entitled Camel.   UK pressing MCA MUPS 473. This copy bears the extremely rare black MCA record labels, only used for a couple of months in mid 1973 before any later second pressings on the rainbow labels such as MCF 2665 or MCL1601.

The matrix no’s are:

Side 1: 7-LNMG-275-2L   1 G    (Matrix stamper no.7)

Side 2: 7-LNMG-276-1L   1  K   (Matrix stamper no.4)

Hardly ever comes up for sale in the form of this black label  MCA pressing, even rarer than the slightly earlier Hexagon pressing.  Early mother stampers of G and K in the Decca BUCKINGHAM sequence.

Condition:  This LP is in superb condition and is a real gem, it would be difficult to find a copy in much better condition than this. Please see the photos contained in this listing.

Item condition (Sleeve / Record) EX/EX+

Detailed grading:

Outer Sleeve:  Overall the sleeve is in EX condition.  It is a very clean example with no major staining or writing. There is just very light wear to the front cover, including one very faint crease.  The edges have a light to moderate amount of shelf wear but are intact and display no significant problems.  A beautiful example of this iconic sleeve.

Record: The record is in stunning EX+ condition. It is quite simply a stunning example of this LP.  Nice heavyweight pressing from 1973, this copy weighs in at a solid 147g.  The record still retains its original deep gloss, these MCA pressings in my opinion were some of the highest quality records made during the 70’s, being very solid and having a general high quality feel.  There is just a very small amount of whispy hairlines visible when viewed under very strong halogen light, but these are very minor.

Labels.  EX+. Both labels are very clean with only a couple of very faint spindle lines that are only visible when the record is held up to strong light.

The record also comes with its original polylined sleeve, which is in EX condition.

I grade fairly but conservatively.  This is beautiful example of this amazingly rare pressing of this LP in EX to EX+ condition.
