Description
Original 1958, MONO pressing of Cannonball Adderley's Blue Note Debut, Somethin' Else with a stellar line up, consisting of:
Cannonball Adderley, alto Miles Davis, trumpet (one of the few post-1955 appearances of Miles Davis as a sideman) Hank Jones, piano (always tasteful and for me, the only choice for piano at this date) Sam Jones, bass Art Blakey, drums
The Penguin Guide to Jazz selected this album as part of it's, "Core Collection"...
The vinyl is full of luster. Deep Groove, beautiful labels. There are a few stray marks on this LP. The Grade VG+ is in my opinion under grading this record. The records sound is full of warmth and brightness. The few stray marks do not effect the playback of the music. This LP was released in 1958. Reception to it's release was unquestionably popular and the music, the recording, the emotion from the players, and the tightness of this line up have kept this record in the highest standing all through these years, and will continue to carry it beyond my lifetime. The sound quality of this item up for auction is superb. You may hear a random pop. Absolutely little, if ANY surface noise that intrudes upon the music at all.
You will not hear a pop per revolution from any mark on this LP.
I say this plays as EXCELLENT. This is one of those records that puts you in the recording booth while the music is being recorded. It has that magic quality. The pressing is solid.
The Jacket is a thick heavy duty cardboard with laminated cover. The spine is tight, and all type is clear as crystal. The previous owner secured the seams with clear tape, done with expert hands.
The back of the jacket has some aging and mild rubbing. there is also light discoloration to the top left corner on the back, and lastly a small portion of the paper is off. This is still a beautiful and solid cover to behold. These points listed above are minor, but the grade of VG has been given. Look at these images. This is better than VG. I am under grading to be clear... (see image)
