Description
Artist & Album Description: Julian “Cannonball” Adderley on alto sax had a long recording career for a variety of record labels. In 1960, the Cannonball Adderley Quintet released two albums on Riverside – “In San Francisco” and “Them Dirty Blues” featuring Julian’s brother Nat on cornet, the phenomenally funky Bobby Timmons on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Louis Hayes on drums. Barry Harris replaced Timmons on some of the tracks on the second album.
The albums are being sold together as they benefit from listening to Julian’s Funky Blues style, as shown on the live track “This Here” on the first album at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco, the excitement of which brought a standing ovation at the end of the set.
Record Grading and Condition: G (Good). Both records were played extensively, and have a number of both small and larger scratches. They have been checked and play OK now without jumping but with surface noise.
Sleeve Grading: F (Fair). This set is being offered for listeners rather than collectors. Both sleeves are worn and discolored on the notes side, also there is separation of the sides – top and bottom for “In San Francisco” and top for “Them Dirty Blues”. Historic attempts were made to seal the sides on “Them Dirty Blues”, with clear tape, the aged effects of which should be visible on the photos. The interior sleeves are plain.
Label & Authentication: The sleeves appear to be of US origin, produced by “Bill Grauer Productions, Inc, 235 West 46th Street, New York 36”; but the disc labels state “Made in England”.
Note to intending buyers: This posting is from a collection of Jazz Vinyl LPs of varying quality and rarity bought in the 1960s then stored until now. Each record on sale is over 50 years old, so I have tried to be deliberately conservative in stating rating levels according to eBay guidelines. All feedback will be gratefully received.
