Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Strictly Personal. Liberty LBL 83172E 1968. Manufactured by Philips Records Ltd. Mono, Gatefold.
Matrix: LBL83172 A LBL83172 B
Disc Condition:
Audio: A fair bit of crackle most noticeable in quieter passages, a couple of clicks Track 1 side 1. Slight distortion end side one. One large click Track 1 Side 2 and one last Track Side 2 but does not jump on my system. Overall the audio is clear (well in the sense of a mono recording of Beefheart:-) but the soundstage is strong and full.
Visual: Side one suffers from ‘sweat marks’ from the original poly liner that is common to this issue. Under strong light there is a faint scratch (cannot feel it) across a fair bit of side two, most likely responsible for the two clicks on side two. Otherwise bright and clean.
Labels: Labels bright and clean.
Cover Condition:
Cover rubbed at edges, some wear at corners, a small stain at top edge inside, a small split at the bottom edge of the opening but overall is clean and tight.
Inner Sleeve: Plain inner, presume original, browned, creased but intact.
Despite faults, this 52 year old copy of this gatefold issue is still overall a great listen, with a strong (mono) full soundstage.
