Description
Captain Beefheart "Trout Mask Replica" vinyl LP.
This is an original 1970s pressing of Captain Beefheart's seminal LP.
This is, I believe, a 1977 German pressing, under the Reprise label with catalog number: K 64026
The matrix reads:
Side 1: STRAWBERRY (stamped) K 64026 A1 OB (hand scrawled - could be a Q or G) Side 2: STRAWBERRY (stamped) K 64026 B1 (hand scrawled) Side 3: STRAWBERRY (stamped) K 64026 C1 GB (hand scrawled) Side 4: STRAWBERRY (stamped) K 64026 D1 (hand scrawled)
The LP is on the familiar tan-coloured Reprise label (see photo 6) and has German writing on the radius edge of the tan label. This also includes the words, in English, "Made in Germany by WEA Musik"
Varnish-print cover, inside and outside spreads. Embossed 'W' lozenge Warner logo on bottom-right of back cover.
The labels feature several mis-spellings which seem to fit with the German pressing as follows:
The labels throughout feature "Beefheart" as "Beefhart" in titles and credits.
A6 Miss-titled "Moonlight In Vermont" A5 Titled as "Hair Pie: Bake I" (rather than number '1') C1 Titled as "Hair Pie: Bake II" (rather than number '2')
Looking at Disogs this LP seems to best fit the 1977 German pressing of the album: http://www.discogs.com/Captain-Beefheart-His-Magic-Band-Trout-Mask-Replica/release/1401498
However, the presence of the scrawled letters 'GB' on matrix means that I'm not entirely sure.
The vinyl itself is in excellent condition. I would say that this album has almost never been played. There are no scratches or surface noise. However, there is a slight bowing of the vinyl of side A/B and C/D. This does not effect playing quality as far as I can tell.
The LP cover is not mint, perhaps more like excellent or very good. There has been a slight bending of the cover, possibly due to slight damp and some scratches to the title edge (see photo 5). The sleeve photos are in an excellent state with no price sticker marks. Comes with the original 'Home Taping is Killing Music' sleeves, which are slightly browned through ageing.
