Hi Vinyl freaks. In the next few weeks I'll put on auction more than 600 great and collectible records. Most records are true collector's items. Have a look, it is worthwhile! Most of my vinyl comes from my own collection and/or quality collections. Most records are in great, collectible condition. If not, I'll clearly describe the possible flaws or scuffs. Extra Info: Masterwork !! Original German 1st press LP on the Straight label ... Wow ..minty dream audio, .....VERY RARE !!

~~ One of the finest achievements in late 20 century music, takes rock music into another realm of possibility or is that impossiblity ? More powerfully concise than "Trout Mask", the production has more depth, Beefheart is on top form vocally and the compositions are as just as musically dense if not lyrically as "Trout". Just shows the high calibre of musicianship betweeen the 2 recordings about 1 year apart, the second guitar has been replaced by Art Tripp from the Zappa's MOI. Ed Marimba and Zoot Horn Rollo make for some amazing unison work on "Bellerin Plain", the intro to "Clouds Full of Wine ..." a complex bird song that turns into a lovely triple time waltz. Zoot and Rockette on bass also duet on "Peon" like a formal etude, also Rollo's solo piece "One Red Rose", shows him to be a master of such playing. The Magic Band are virtuosic here, superbly tight like a classical chamber ensemble. Special mention of Beefheart's vocals on the hilarious title track he sounds positively ribald with some naughty punning, the humour continues on "I Want to find me a Woman.... " the ecstatic chant of "Love You Big Dummy", blowing his head off on harmonica and "Woe is a Me Bop" another belting blues vocal. Some arrangements are just insane with two drummers like "Doctor Dark" a collage structure of multiple melodies, cross rhythms and lurching chords, the fast juxtapositons, the band going lickety split keeps you off balance until the end. The ecology theme returns on "Petrified Forest" humans like dinosaurs making their own extinction, on Smithsonian Institute Blues" a more straightahead song Beeheart exhorts us to come to the Big Dig. So in half the time "Lick" has a wealth of musical ideas and invention without the longuers of TMR. CB and MB at a unique creative peak, brilliant, a masterwork.
