Description
This auction is for a rare copy of the original UK issue of this 1970 vinyl LP by Carol Grimes ... and Delivery, "Fools Meeting". This was brought out on the short-lived B&C Record Label, the catalogue number being CAS 1023. It was produced by Tony Chapman in conjunction with the Robert Stigwood Organisation Ltd.
I bought this in Portsmouth in 1970 and it has been up and down the country with me in the various places I have lived. I cannot say in all honesty that it has been tenderly looked after but, equally, neither has it been misused or abused.
It was recorded in April 1970 and features Steve Miller (Piano and Vocals), Phil Miller (Guitar), Roy Babbington (Bass Guitar / String Bass), Pip Pyle (Drums) Carol Grimes (Vocals / Percussion) with Lol Coxhill guest starring on saxophones and Roddy Skeeping on violin. None of whom are household names (maybe in Canterbury ...?) but each is a very accomplished musician indeed.
The disc itself is in very good condition, I can just hear some "tics" on "Fighting It Out" but (surely!) that adds to the ambience ... :-). There do appear to be a couple of marks on the disc which don't seem to affect the playing (also I don't have a decent dust cloth so it looks a little dusty on the photos - and in reality if I'm honest). The labels on both sides are fine, there are some marks and a couple of little dints on the Side 1 label but otherwise both sides are completely readable with no deliberate writing on them, or any disfigurement, and no wearing at all in the middle.
According to the back cover the Side 1 tracks are :-

- "Is It Really The Same" - (Music K. Jarrett)

- "The Wrong Time" - (Words and Music Delivery / Carol Grimes)
- "Fighting It Out" - (Words and Music P. Miller)
- "Fools Meeting" - (Words and Music Delivery / Carol Grimes)
"Is It Really The Same" is credited to K.Jarrett and M. Oneil on the label. Also, note, no question mark ...
The gatefold sleeve has some wear and tear along all of the edges, it has some fading on the front cover and on the inside near the bottom which can be just about seen on the gatefold picture.
To use the magazine / comic book analogy I would say that overall this is in "Fine" condition, I wouldn't go as far as "Very Fine" and definitely not "Near Mint" but I do think it looks and, importantly, sound pretty good for an item that is 45 years old and I think it compares very favourably with similar items of similar vintage.
