Description

An original genuine UK 1st press of TATFC on the UK Island label. Matrix 3U/3U - very 1st cut. Stamped 'LH Sterling'. Worth insisting on the 1st pressing as they were pressed a touch heavier than copies just a few months later. Note that the stampers on this copy conform with 1st press [1-AO/2-OL] and this copy would have been available for sale within a couple of months of 1st release. There's another tell tale sign of the early copies on the cover. E J Day printed all the early covers. Some were textured [the really early ones], and when they realised that wasn't working well, they switched to smooth finish. The smooth finish is what we have here - but it is printed by E J Day. After 1st release they switched to Howard Printers. Also included is the original Island Blue inner sleeve with correct 'Basing Street' address for this period. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) A really very well preserved lightly used copy. There are a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome. I did spot a couple of radial marks in track 1 - these are very very slight indeed and, thankfully, make almost no impact on the audio [detail below>]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just a couple of slight deviations. It plays absolutely great and really nice and clean which is critical on this title. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with tremendous clarity. Even super fussy tracks like 'Morning Broken' play really nice and clean with only a couple of isolated crackles. Expect a fantastic rendition all the way through with only two slight deviations. The radial marks in 'The Wind' cause a couple of 'background/low-level' momentary [1-second] bursts of interference. Audible as a momentary back-ground rustle [absolutely no big deal]. Then 'How Can I Tell You' exhibits the odd crackle - but nothing that noticeable. That track still plays very nice indeed - it just won't quite much the heights of the other tracks which are nigh on faultless. A great player which does this STEVENS classic maximum justice.
Cover (Ex-) A lovely clean front and rear which is way better than you tend to find on the textured earliest copies. No creasing and very little surface wear - one minuscule nick in the top right corner on the front. The interior is immaculate and the openings still sharp. There's a bit of edge wear in places - in the middle of the top-edge of the rear panel there's a 1c.m. wear-through. Other than that it's a pretty sweet looking example. The spine is fine with all text legible and only very light wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture. A lovely example.
Inner (Ex) Much better looking than most examples. Very nice and clean and relatively unaged. No splits.
