Unbelievable record from (in my opinion) the most overlooked / underappreciated band in jazz, alongside their Muse Records label mate - The Visitors (feat. The Grubbs brothers). The band itself self proclaims, ‘Catalyst AKA The Funkiest Band You’ve Never Heard Of’ - I still don’t understand the ‘why’ behind the neglect but at least they can make jokes about it.
A perfect marriage of fusiony jazz-funk and modal spiritual jazz (the best of both worlds).
Factory sealed copy and with stock getting lower and lower, now’s the time to make it happen. I have already seen a price jump of which I’m not surprised and feel it will definitely continue, as this bands earlier / original pressings of their albums (all released on Muse) sell for between $150-$600.
Widely considered a grail by jazz heads who know the time.
