Description

Cecil Payne            mono      Signal S1203          white label, deep groove, RVG in runouts

Cecil Payne (bar s), Kenny Dorham (t), Duke Jordan (p), Tommy Potter (b), Art Taylor (d)  Recorded 1956

The record looks VG-/VG and plays VG. Side 1 has a lot of scuffing and hairline marks that are not deep. There is one long curving mark that goes across most of the side. The first inch app. is feelable, the rest is not into the grooves. Side 1 Track 3 has a thump near the end and maybe very slight skip. It's hard to tell Side 2 has a slight skip, maybe one beat, at  the beginning, some superficial scuffing and two small, app. 1/4 inch scratches at the end of track 1. Music plays strong and without distortion over light to medium surface noise and some ticking. Grooves definitely show some play but are not spread. Spindle marks on both labels. The record is not destroyed and plays enjoyably.

LISTEN TO THE SOUND CLIPS BELOW from beginning, middle and end of each side of the actual record.  NO sound fix up. Recorded with a stereo cartridge. Will sound better using mono cartridge or switch.

 The cover is VG-.

The front cover has heavy wear and moderate ring wear. There's a strip of fabric tape visible across the top. Some small pieces of the slick missing along the pocket.  The back cover has moderate wear, some staining along the spine and some writing. Corners are rounded and heavily worn. Top seam is probably split under the tape. Bottom seam is heavily worn and split app 1 inch at the pocket and 4 inches in the middle.  Spine is split app 3 inches at the bottom and is heavily worn.

Black lines that might be visible at bottom left and top right in pictures are due to photo cropping and not on cover.

My highest grade is M- and I rarely grade 50s or 60s records M-. Records are graded visually using the Goldmine system. M-, VG++, VG+, VG, VG- etc. I play grade any potential problem areas.  I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws. You will be satisfied.  No hassles.
