Description
This rare historical release from Jazz Archives (JA-6) captures the legendary synergy between two of jazz's most influential figures: electric guitar pioneer Charlie Christian and tenor saxophone titan Lester Young. Recorded in 1940, these sessions represent the only known recordings of these two 'Originals' playing together, making it an essential piece of jazz history. The album features the Benny Goodman Sextet, including stellar performances from Count Basie, Jo Jones, and Buck Clayton.
The tracklist is a treasure trove of swing-era gems, featuring rehearsal takes and previously unreleased material such as 'Ad-Lib Blues,' 'Wholly Cats,' and multiple versions of 'Breakfast Feud.' This 33 ⅓ RPM vinyl is a 'Jazz Archive First,' presenting material that had never been released in any form prior to this pressing. The sleeve features unique line art by Lori Valburn, dated 1973, adding to the vintage aesthetic and collectibility of this important archival document.
