Description
Willard Robison and His Orchestra -- in this case the Chicago Loopers -- play "I'm More Than Satisfied" (stated take 2) on Perfect 14905. It's small-group jazz of the highest order.
Bix Beiderbecke (cnt); Don Murray (cl, ts); Frankie Trumbauer (c-mel); Frank Signorelli (p); Eddie Lang (g) or unknown (g); Vic Berton (d, harpophone); Deep River Quintet (vcl); Willard Robison (ldr). Recorded in New York in October 1927.
On the flip side, the California Ramblers (as the Golden Gate Orchestra) play a jazzy "For My Baby," with hot solos and a neat violin obbligato behind the vocal.
Chelsea Quealey, Phil Hart (tp); Al Philburn (tb); Pete Pumiglio (cl, as); Larry Lloyd (as); Bob Fallon (as, ts); Spencer Clark (bassax); Jack Russin (p); Tommy Felline (bj); Herb Weil (d); Al Duffy (vln); John Ryan (vcl); Ed Kirkeby (dir). Recorded in New York on November 18, 1927.
This record is in V- condition visually, but plays somewhat better. The Loopers side has a tiny rim chip nowhere near the grooves (visible in the second picture at about 2:30). Despite the condition, the music comes through fine and it is thrilling.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
