Try Rock N’ Roll EP Silver Arrow Records
Try Rock 'N' Roll Hello L.A. Bye Bye Birmingham Goodbye Wheeling Shake Rattle & Roll

To celebrate Record Store Day this Black Friday — and just in time for their Friday night headlining gig at the El Rey — the Chris Robinson Brotherhood (CRB) are releasing a limited-edition vinyl EP, Try Rock ‘N’ Roll.

“‘Hello L.A., Bye Bye Birmingham’ hit me as a song to cover because of the classic ‘going to Hollywood to make it big’ mythology. That the singer in the song is southern makes it hit home even harder,” says Robinson, himself a southern transplant to the City of Angels. “It’s a Delaney Bramlett song, co-written by Mac Davis, so there’s that, too!”

Bramlett, a legendary Mississippi-born, L.A.-based session guitarist who toured and recorded George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Jerry Lee Lewis among others, wrote “Hello L.A.” with country singer Mac Davis in 1969. From ’69 through the early ’70s, it became a country-rock standard, recorded by everyone from Nancy Sinatra to Blue Cheer to Bobby Whitlock. It’s been part of CRB’s live show for a couple years, but Try Rock ‘N’ Roll marks the first time they’ve released a studio version of it.
