ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This superb LP – a beautiful collector’s copy – from EMI (067-7498581, Club Sonderauflage Edition [26 468-9], German pressing / DMM · Direct Metal Mastering, large dog semi-circle label, DDD stereo) features Kyung-Wha Chung's richly burnished account of Dvorak's Violin Concerto in A minor Op. 53, as well as the same composer's Romance for Violin and Orchestra in F minor Op. 11, both recorded with conductor Ricardo Muti and the remarkable Philadelphia Orchestra at Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia in October 1988.
Chung can withstand the most exalted comparisons with anyone before or since and EMI provides warm and atmospheric sound (producer: David Groves/engineer: Michael Sheady).
Incidentally, the engaging cover photo of Chung and Muti was taken by Alistair Morrison. There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket in English and Italian (by Robin Dearling), as well as in German (by Matthias Henke) and in French (by Danièle Laruelle).
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. The only flaw that bars a true MINT grading is a small sticker tear to the rear panel. Otherwise, the album appears virtually as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very handsome in appearance – overall, a superb collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and plays without any defect whatsoever – a truly fine collector's copy.
