Description

This very rare "White Label" test pressing was found hidden away in the bottom of a box of rare records I purchased from a collector who sold his extensive collection in bulk lots without individually checking the rarity or value of them.
The Record is a 12 inch, 45 rpm Test Pressing. As seen in the photos, the typed out white label has the words "COL JOYE - ROCK & ROLL". The playable area runs to only half way across the disc where the very wide run out groove then starts.
On the run-out groove on both sides of the record are hand scratched, the figures DMX 754034 with a capital R in a circle and "2A" just to the right by about 15mm. (I had trouble photographing this R2A bit)
I believe this means- Disk Matrix 754034 record 2A.
The record has been kept safe and clean for years in a cardboard generic sleeve and it appears as if it has never been played. If you are a fan of Aussie Rock and Roll and a vinyl record collector, this is a "MUST HAVE"
It is most likely that this is a test pressing from Joye's own record company ATA records. The record has the radio station stamp on it of "2BBB", I purchased the record off a collector who got it from 2BBB in Bellingen NSW.
This is a cover by Col Joye, of his mate, Kevin Johnson's hit single, "Rock and Roll Gave Me the Best Years of my Life". It is fully produced with all instruments and back up singers etc. There is a slightly different version on each side.
What makes this pressing rare is that Col Joye never ever released this cover in his Discography but it is seriously good singing and seriously good playing
In 2010 a similar test pressing by Col Joy and the Joy Boys sold on Ebay for $200.
Kevin Johnson's, "Rock and Roll" (All the Best Years of my Life). Was  was a huge hit in Australia in 1973 for Aussie rock singer Kevin Johnson. Johnson and Joye have worked together since the early sixties.
The song has been covered by 27 major artists over the years and has always been in the charts. This test record may be a cover version of this song by Col Joye as Kevin Johnson was with Col Joye's record label in the early days.

Col Joye is an Australian Rock and Roll singer who had a string of hits in the late 1950's and early sixties, performing with The Joy Boys which included his two brothers. In 1959 Joye had the number one hit single in Australia "Oh Yeah, Uh Uh" and in 1973 "Heaven is my Woman's Love".
He was instrumental in promoting and guiding The Bee Gee's. He owns a successful record company in Sydney, ATA records which had the fantastic Australian hit by Kevin Johnson- "Rock and Roll". Joye still performs to this day and has won two Aria Music Awards and is a Member of The Order of Australia.
I welcome any questions about this record.
