Description
A V condition Columbia disc featuring 2 very early 57500 matrix series Chinese opera recordings, re-pressed of course. These were done ca.1905 during one of Columbia's first recording trips to China, then still under the Qing dynasty. On one side is a fantastic interlude(?) in which the Suona instrument takes center stage, on the other is delightful opera singing. I've included a clip of the record you will receive, it plays loud and clear. It does also have some warp which could cause a rough start but increasing the counterweight to 2.5-just under 3.0 smooths it out.
I will post some more Chinese records soon, including some from the slightly later (by only a year or so) 57700 matrix range.
