While preparing the promotional materials dedicated to the release of Pink Floyd’s 10th studio album “Animals” which came out on February 2nd, 1977 in the US, without any doubts Columbia Records was influenced by the cover artwork containing 2 visual images, the Battersea Power Station and a large inflatable pig. The company created several kinds of promotional displays assigning a separate catalog number to each one of them. Perhaps, we’re the first ones to ever write about this, because we couldn’t find the information about it anywhere, but the currently listed display contains the “L-009” catalog number at the bottom of one of the panels. Only a handful of these incredibly rare Columbia Records displays have survived to this day. Even if you manage to find this display stand its condition would leave much to be desired. The currently listed display is one of the best examples we’ve come across with in many years of selling collectible items. The stand measures 18" X 23" with the 9” depth when the leg is opened and 3” inches when it’s closed. The retractable part at the top of the display contains a large “PINK FLOYD ANIMALS”. For this particular promotional display, Columbia Records used a unique font which can’t be found on any other memorabilia items related to the “Animals” album. The display’s top part also contains the Columbia Records logo at the bottom right corner, below the large banner. This promotional display is an integral part of every Pink Floyd collection just like the incredibly rare Special DJ copy of Columbia Records “Pink Floyd Animals” Demonstration Not For Sale AP-1 issue which can also be found currently listed at our auction.
