Description

"Strange Fruit" started out as poem written by a teacher Abel Meeropol to protest racism in the South.  After several labels refused to record the controversial song, by special arrangement, Billie Holiday made a record of the song for Commodore, a small independent New York company, on April 20, 1939.   It became a smash hit for her, according to some sources.   Few light scratches and light wear.  Condition V++
