Description
Dick Clark Rock Roll & Remember Radio Show 4 vinyl LPs, complete 1985 Radio Show with script. Show # 168 featuring The Eagles
In the days before satellite feeds and the Internet, radio stations would subscribe to pre-packaged radios shows on vinyl LPs. It would give the station use of a big name disc jockey such as Dick Clark or Casey Kasem plus space to insert its own local ads. These syndicated productions (which still go on today although no longer supplied on vinyl) supply broadcast product to radio stations for use during weekends when their usual on-air personalities have a break. Many of these programs play on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments.
Every show typically had a special feature, usually an artist or group, and there were usually at least eight interview segments with that artist during the show, two an hour. Each hour also contained one or two more interview segments with other artists featured.
Each show also had a theme year and many songs were played that were popular during that year. There were also other regular features such as the "Microphone on the Street" and the “Rock Roll and Review" segment.
This four-hour, four-LP show is #168 and was made to air on Apr. 27 or Apr. 28, 1985. The show’s featured year is 1965 and the featured artists were The Eagles. There are multiple interviews with Eagle members Randy Meisner and Don Felder and many other artists interspersed through the show. Look at the scans of the cue sheets to see the complete list of songs, artists, interviews, and ads featured.
The album cover has some creases and there is printing on the inner sleeves. The vinyl looks to be in excellent condition. Shipping will be $12 in North America.
These sets are collectable for various reasons. Some people just collect the series because they like it and want them all. Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music. These sets provide a unique presentation for a collector’s favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with entertaining DJ presentations.
Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. Since many of these artists (and Clark, himself) are now dead, these interviews are invaluable and lend a personal touch to each show.
These shows were printed just for syndicated stations in the United States and Canada. Because they could never be aired again due to the time-limited commercial content, many stations just threw them away after airing making them increasingly hard to find.
This package was produced by United Stations Radio Network of New York. United is still in operation today with a slightly different name (Networks instead of Network).
Owning one of these shows is owning a piece of the history of rock and roll. This is the original show sent for airing in 1985. It is not an unauthorized copy. The show also comes with its original national commercials. In fact some people buy these shows for their commercial collections.
