Description

An original UK STEREO 1st Press on CBS from 1961..way back! Matrix 1/2. Now let's just clear up a few facts, here. Many copies will LOOK early - but there is ONLY ONE true 1st pressing. For this CBS title to genuinely be 1st press it must have been, in fact, pressed by Philips. CBS did not have plant in the UK in '61 and they would have contracted out to Philips. And 'yes' this copy does have all the hallmarks of an early Philips copy for CBS. Correct deadwax info mentioning //420 which you find only on Philips. The 1st copies should also make reference to 'recording 1st publishing' [as this copy does]. Textured labels on really solid vinyl. Now, don't forget a true stereo pressing from '61 is actually quite a find. The format was only introduced about a year earlier and only folks with incredibly pricey stereo decks would have been in the market. The vinyl comes housed in the original 1st <stereo> cover. It will come shipped in a Mofi anti-static inner. Nice little write up has been pasted on for your perusal too. 
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and given the vintage one could be forgiven for saying this LP is in marvellous condition. Has seen light careful use down its 62 year life. A couple of very slight marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. Most jazz records from this period are going to be knackered by this point in time. But this badboy is looking and sounding very very spritely. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with minor deviation in two sections. Very nice and clean warm audio. Some great brass on here.  A touch of slightest static presence in track 2 both sides [that was abut it really]. Absolutely nothing unpleasant or distracting. Low in the mix - I am only mentioning for the fussiest folks out there. I have to say I'm very taken with the audio on this copy - highly impressive. You can hear all the tricks the guys on the brass are managing. Some amazing skill going in here. Given the vintage - remarkable.
Cover (Vg+) The front is is smashing condition without ageing or creases. The rear has avoided most of the ageing on the rear too which is good to see. Slight edge wear in the odd spot but nothing worrisome. Spine is 100% intact and the cover retains excellent rigidity.
