Description
Here is an extremely rare 33 rpm studio acetate from Electro-Vox studios in Hollywood, containing unreleased material from the Count Basie Orchestra’s recordings for their cameo in the 1960 Jerry Lewis film Cinderfella. Most of these tracks do not appear on any Basie release, nor did they show up on the soundtrack to the movie. Of the six tracks, four are either unknown or unreleased in any form: “The Basie Chase,” “The Wailers,” “Fella’s Debut” and “Princess Waltz.” The version of “Cute” here is obviously different that the one that appeared on Basie Plays Hefti the year before, and I believe the Joe Williams version of “Somebody” is also different from the one that showed up on his 1960 solo single. The disc is in VG+ condition and in great shape for an old acetate. Playback is loud and clear throughout, though there is a bit of background crackle, particularly between the tracks. Listen below!
