Description
"Country Music Time " was a US radio show produced by the United States Air Force for recruitment purposes . One programme covers each side , Johnny Cash , programme no. 141 , on one side and Joe Maphis ,programme no. 142 , on the reverse . The format being a guest would perform on each show while also plugging the US Air Force Recruiting Service . Although Cash implies he is giving a live show I am almost certain the three songs he sings are in fact his original studio recordings ,"I Got Stripes " ,"Pickin' Time " and "Swing Low Sweet Chariot '' . There is an audience reaction to Cash but that could have been dubbed too .I am not familiar with Joe Maphis but I suspect his performance too has used studio recordings . There are numerous surface scratches on both sides of the record which are audible throughout the shows , particularly during the talking . I think it would be classified as "very good '" using the Goldmine grading system . There is some writing on both labels which seem to indicate the dates the shows were aired[see photo] ,which place the record as being released in early 1960 ,
