Description
A genuine very 1st press of DG on the UK Reaction label from 1967. Matrix A1/B1. The labels are consistent with very 1st press and still exhibit the "Windfall" publishing credit - which was soon superseded. Also, please note the 1st copies are incredibly heavy pressed - only a couple of years later they do not have the robust feel of one like this example. The vinyl comes housed in a very 1st issue mono cover - which is fully laminated [soon discontinued]. Also included is an original inner sleeve date code to the month of release - Nov 1967 [117]. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Vg+/Ex-) Has seen a moderate level of use, but these heavy pressings can more than handle it - and deal out some pretty magical audio to boot! If you're someone who cannot deal with a few surface marks this copy may not be to your liking. If, on the other hand, you're someone who can accept a few marks in order to snag one of these rare copies I would suggest you give this copy careful consideration... Expect a few light marks either side and a couple of light trails, and also a perpendicular mark which crosses several tracks, but is only just feelable in one spot. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAR EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. How is this possible I hear you ask..? Well, because this record is 'mono' and pressed super-heavy..that's how. By and large a really great rendition. Ok, it's not going to hit the top grades..but in reality it's not that far off either. These early mono copies have an aura about them that cannot be beat - it's the definitive listen without a doubt. The majority of the LP will play very nice and clean with a few crackles in the odd isolated place. The only deviations are a couple of clicks in the intro to SWALBR. And then there's two momentary bursts [c.1 second] of interference/distortion in 'Strange Brew'. A super rendition with, in reality, not an awful lot to complain at..priced to go...
Cover (Vg) On the surface looks like it might grade higher, but there are one or two issues lurking which you must be aware of before pulling the trigger. The front is as good as you're likely to find - very nice and clean. There's little sign of fading at all with all colours still vivid - just a few thumbnail creases toward the opening. The rear looks very nice too on the face of it - but be aware there's a vertical rip running through the area between Superman and Bruce [about 5 inches]. Someone appears to have done quite a decent tape repair of it and as a result it's secure and doesn't stand out too much. There's some edge wear in places as is common on this title. There's a one inch patch of wear-through in the middle of the bottom edge. And there's a 1c.m. of wear on the spine rendering the word 'Disraeli' illegible. Overall the cover retains very good rigidity. Still a very fine specimen of the very collectable true 1st issue cover.
Inner (Vg+) A bit of ageing in places. Bit no rips.
