Description
Superfly is the soundtrack album by soul singer Curtis Mayfield. The album is the score from the 1972 Blaxploitation film of the same name about an underworld drug dealer starring Ron O’Neal as Youngblood Priest who is trying to quit the illicit drug trade. It was the third solo album by Mayfield, released on Curtom Records in July 1972. Immediately regarded as a classic of 70’s Soul and Funk music. Its sales were bolstered by two million-selling singles, “Freddie’s Dead” and the title track “ Superfly”. Like Marvin Gaye’s “ What’s Goin On” it is revered as a pioneering Soul concept album. The album itself and the single “Freddie’s Dead” garnered multiple nominations the 15th Annual Grammy Awards. Crisp, clean original w unique die-cut cover and Curtom label here. Terrific album!
