Description

Columbia Records stereo three disc set, deluxe edition, in hard plastic case, D3S 614, earliest gray 6 eye label discs, no "CBS" at the top of the label,  pressed in the US.  Promotional copy, all three discs have "Not for Sale" sticker on the disc label.

Stravinsky conducts the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in his ballets Petroushka, DS 6184, and Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), DS 6183.  DS was the catalog prefix for deluxe editions.  This was the first issue of these great recordings.  The individual issues came a year or two later, and have later catalog numbers, but the matrix numbers are the same.  You can see this if you look at my other listings, and look at the label on the separate issue of Petroushka, MS 6332.  The matrix number, on the right, is XSM 49386, the same as on DS 6184.  See pics for program details.

Also included are the printed inserts which include great photos and three essays by Stravinsky, "Memories of a City" (St. Petersburg), "The Autobiography of My Residences", and "Apropos of Petroushka", as well as "Speaking of Stravinsky" by Goddard Lieberson.  The third disc is a one sided mono disc, D 5505, containing an interview with Stravinsky, "Apropos of Le Sacre"

Discs NM- just a few faint non sounding marks from the original paper inner sleeves, which have been replaced.  Le Sacre has one tiny mark at the beginning of side 2 which makes a couple light tics, otherwise NM.  Petroushka plays very nicely with very little surface noise.  Play graded.  Box VG+ The box is intact, and has the sticker on the spine, which serves as the hinge.  Even the plastic tab that secures the box is intact.  There are the inevitable surface hairlines on the box, but I have seen a number of copies of this, and this is by far the best box that I have had.  It almost never survives like this.  The inserts are clean, in nice shape.
