Description
Very great annd extremely hard to find LP by THE NEW DAVE PIKE SET. LP is titled SALOMAO.
Original Pressing. Released in 1973 on BASF/MPS Records-Gatefold Jacket. Recorded in Bahia (Brazil) in 1972 with the incredible Native Brazilian Percussion group GRUPO BAIAFRO.
Tracks are: "Salomao"//"Berimbass"//"An Evening With Vincent Van Ritz"//"Ritmos Do Bahia"//"Samba De Rhoda/Dave"//"Baiafrock/Volker"//"Marc"//"Baiafro".
The Dave Pike Set on this LP include: DAVE PIKE -Vibes, EBERHARD WEBER - Bass, VOLKER KRIEGEL - Guitar, MARK HELLMAN - Drums.
Grupo Baiafro members include - DJALMA CORREA -Pinicos, Atabaques, Timbalas, Agogo (percussion instrument) and Triangel, EDSON EMETERIO de SANT'ANA - Atabaques, Surdo (Bass Drum), ONIAS CARMADELLI -Berimbau, Atabaques, Pandeiro.
This is truly a fantastic record that will appeal to long time Dave Pike fans as well as fans of Brazilian Tropicalia (the tropicalia influenced jam "Baiafro" is incredible, with killer psych guitar explorations and roto-sonic drumming/percussion). Latin Jazz/Funk and even Krautrock/Progressive rock lovers should love this LP. Volker Kriegels guitar playing on this LP is truly mind-blowing, with great wildly overdriven fuzzed out freakouts, the drumming/percussion of both Mark Hellman and Grupo Baiafro is intense as well. As always Dave Pike's Vibe playing is top notch -never busy or overblown, Pike is definately a master. A must have rarity. Condition is Near Mint- (Jacket -small spine cut (cut-out-much smaller than you would normally see on a cut out -barely noticble)//Near Mint (vinyl). Very well taken care of over the years.
